When we found out the Stephanie was expecting her baby on October 23, we decided to get a plane ticket so that I could go out to help her about a week later. We did buy the ticket on Southwest so that if I had to go a little early, we could change it. Well, that did not turn out to be the case. I bought the ticket for October 29th and this was the status in Burbank when we arrived.
In a way, I was kind of excited to be able to be there at the time of the birth. I had arrived a few days to a week later when the other grandchildren were born. But I also knew that it would cut down a little on the time I would be there after the baby came.
Me and Stephanie just after my arrival and just before she went in to be induced
The famous "I'm kind of excited and terrified all at the same time" face
We took a picture of our toes for some reason....never noticed our almost matching moles on our feet
Sooooo.... the whole induction process was way different than we were prepared for. Steph went in to the hospital on Tuesday night and because she was not dilated at all, they had to do some preparatory steps before they could start the pitocin. They actually told her that she would probably be there for about 3 days before having the baby. Whoa!!! We were not expecting that!! Stephanie had been really concerned that her baby would be born on Halloween and thought that by being induced Tuesday night, she would avoid Halloween (Thursday).
Well, to make a long story short, they finally started her on the pitocin at about 3 in the afternoon on Wednesday and Karsten Douglas Oxborrow was born just after midnight on October 31. I think he knew exactly what he was doing. :)
Here is Karsten talking to his daddy shortly after his birth.
He weighed in at 8lbs. 3oz and was 20 inches long.
With all the prep work and waiting, it was a long ordeal for Stephanie, but she was a champ made it through just fine....and maybe just a little tired.
Karsten just kept opening his mouth....he was looking for food the minute he came out
Another really cute one of Marc and Karsten

just in case Karsten decided to come on Halloween.

Fast asleep......
......and wide awake!!!!
Sure loved getting to know this little guy. It was so fun to be there from the very beginning and I can't wait to snuggle him again. I hope it won't be too long. Love you, Baby Karsten.
So so sweet!! Such fun before pictures, I hadn't seen those yet. Love how he always has his mouth open haha too funny!!
